Gigs To Rise From HELLFEST's Ashes
August 19, 2005Scott Frost of The Trentonian is reporting that the organizers of the canceled Hellfest three-day metal and hardcore festival said 6,000 tickets, including 500 from overseas fans as far as Japan, were sold for the event, but those numbers might have been exaggerated.
Max Cruise Entertainment's Chris Ring, the talent buyers for 90 percent of the bands slated to play Hellfest, said the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey sold 3,500 tickets to the event and paid only 1 percent of his clients.
Sovereign Bank Arena management pulled the plug on Hellfest because event organizers owed money and didn’t have the proper insurance policy to support a concert of such magnitude.
SBA officials are prepared to deal with a possible angry mob of straightedge, vegan, hardcore fans who want their money back, but Trenton Mayor Doug Palmer isn't worried.
Police will take action if they're called in, but "those individuals would have been respectful to the city," he said.
Ticket holders can pick up their refunds at the SBA box office all weekend, said Eric Cuthbertson, the arena's general manager.
Local venues have picked up the pieces Hellfest left behind and are scurrying to give the bands expected to play a stage to perform on.
UNEARTH, MADBALL and CHIMAIRA headline the Starland Ballroom tonight, the Trocadero will host a MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD show tomorrow and a RISE AGAINST performance Sunday, THE RED CHORD headline the Bloomfield Avenue Cafe Sunday with the BOUNCING SOULS and LIFETIME playing the legendary Stone Pony Sunday.
